Review

Hard to believe this modulation of "the Out of Towners" is
by the same director as Taxi Driver and Raging Bull. This
is a dark comedy about someone having a really, really bad
day. And though Scorcese's camera work and sense of rhythm
and pace is there, the story spins out of control with a mob
thinking Paul Hackett is a local burglar and chasing him
down the streets into the arms of a psychotic sculptress...
just a bit too much. Good performances, generally, and the
city is a star, but the material just doesn't deserve it.
An oddity-- a major character dies early in the film. It's
unexpected, a bit shocking.
