I can't find my original rant about Jose Padilla but you should read about him and consider whether or not you ought to be marching in the streets with a protest sign.  His treatment, including 3 years in prison as an "enemy combatant" without any charges being filed, and then being charged with unrelated terrorist offenses just as the limit on the the detention period was approaching...  was despicable, disgusting, contemptible, and outrageous.

Seriously-- he was held for 3 years under a law intended to handle suspects swept up overseas during the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq because there were no other laws (other than, of course, the esteemed Geneva Convention) to handle such persons if they were suspected of doing something other than... well, defending your country from a well-armed invader...  Okay.   Then the government turns around and says, oh, it seems we actually thought all along he had actually committed terrorist acts.  Now we charge him.

Amazingly, the Judge rejected the government's claims on the flimsy pretense that the U.S. is actually governed by a constitution.

Terrorists?
